Formal Halls at King's

My second and third Formal Halls were at King's College. It was lovely to take drinks on the grass behind the beautiful white building alongside King's chapel. They always have either apple or orange juice for those who'd prefer a non-alcoholic option. Sometimes they have elderberry soda which is pretty good too and makes me think of Willow. Every time. The second formal hall at King's I ordered a vegan meal, but was happy to have Thai-themed food. It turned out really delicious. The third Formal Hall I just ordered a vegetarian meal and it was a delicious risotto, so not vegan but still good. I sat with some girls from BYU's group and one of the PA's who is a Cambridge student from Romania. He told us riddles the entire meal and we were racking our brains trying to figure them out. That's the beauty of a formal hall, the meal time talk.
There's always a bit of a rush getting situated at the long tables with friends, etc.
The menu is printed nicely on each table so you know what to expect.

This thai-themed meal was sooo good. This was the first course.

This was the main course, spring roll wraps on rice with japanese mushrooms and bok choy.

Mariah had bought a beautiful vintage hat in Edinburgh. Maddie is a delightful, beautiful, and complimentary piano performance major. I love both of them!

About 2.5 hours later we're done and its dark out! Time to party. Or go back and do homework.

This is a really neat clock just down the street from King's. Tourists take pictures of it all the time!

The third formal hall at King's was fun because the international Vice President from BYU was visiting. Dr. Kerry wanted us all to meet her and tell her about our experiences so she would know how valuable our time was there and how beneficial it was for other students from around the world to meet BYU kids. All of us have had some really interesting experiences sharing about the gospel or about life at BYU with other students who haven't met Mormons before. Everyone I've talked to that has met other BYU kids have always said that we're so nice and friendly. I met a guy named Ernest at dinner just last night who studied at Berkeley but is originally from Ghana. He is starting a grad program at Oxford in African Studies. So we have a lot in common! We're also both doing a supervision which we feel is the best preparation for our Master's. We talked for almost an hour about race and the church and all kinds of issues regarding being open minded in a setting like we are in.
Maddie and I on the lawn during drinks.

First course was a really good goat cheese with beets and a tiny apple.

This was dessert--a vanilla cheesecake (so-so) and amazing rhubarb ice cream.
